With
the mushrooming of Taekwondo schools all over the country, Ilyo Kwan Taekwondo will
remain firm in it’s resolve to maintain the traditional
aspects of Taekwondo practices. The practice of traditional Taekwondo
is as it has always been to
enhance the total well being of the individual (i.e. the body, mind and
spirit). This is achieved as the novice undergoes:

endurance
and hands and feet
co-ordination.
|
|
Self-discipline

various fundamentals of Taekwondo through self-discipline of technical
performance as well as perfection of technique.
|

interrelation between peer groups, seniors and juniors.
|
|

student takes on more responsibility in terms of looking after juniors and
guiding them. at the same time, he learns to seek guidance from his seniors and
is his responsible towards them.
|
|
High achievers
The
student learns to persevere and develop a strong tenacity to be responsible for
his actions and achieve set goals and tasks.
|
|
High
morality
With
the acquiring of skills, which converts his hands and feet into lethal weapons,
the student learns to abide by the tenets and oath of Taekwondo to achieve a
sense of fair play, justice and loyalty to ethics of Taekwondo.
|
Not all Taekwondo schools
advocate these methods. These are the ways of Ilyo Kwan Taekwondo.

Acting without
adequate knowledge or understanding is a constant source of
consternation and problems. We are often busy and active without really
understanding the basis of our actions or their full impact. Some people study
Taekwondo for many years without knowing why they are really studying. In class
they do the technique without understanding its purpose and consequently lose
much of the benefit.
An
example could be press ups, Do we perform these without understanding their
purpose. Is the purpose just for pain, or is it to build strong arms? Or do they
understand they are building a stronger spirit and a non quitting attitude.?
Do Children come to class because their parents want them to, or is it
for themselves.? For what reasons
do students seek a black belt ? for self satisfaction or to impress others?.
Without real knowledge we fail to get the full benefits and realize our full
potential.
Think
before you act and understand your actions!
