Grading Guide This is a guide of some of the things that the Examiner Master Hudson is looking for in your performance at a Taekwondo Grading: Candidates will be informed by the class instructor when they are ready to take the next promotion test, under no circumstances should students request upgrading, this is usually 3 to 4 times per year but may be as few as 1 grading and the changing of rank is NOT a race students must have satisfied for a period of time the requirements for upgrading. Grading fees as with all other fees should be paid on time. Candidates must produce themselves for upgrading with a current BTCB license and in a clean , ironed white Dobok with no Jewelry it shall be a requirement that all students have at least one of the the following badges on their uniform 1. BTCB badge ( on the left breast ) 2. ILYO KWAN badge on the left sleeve.
the Basics: Candidates are required to pay particular attention to the deliverance and standard of basic techniques these being; Low , middle, and high blocks, sitting, front ( short ) stance Long ( forward ) stance and back stances. Front kick angled front kick, turning kick, side kick and back kick, ALL these basic techniques must be practiced regularly and will form the basis on which to advance to a senior grade. Taking
into account the following
Sparring: Free Sparring is an integral part of the Taekwondo syllabus which focuses on the sporting element of our art this area should not be neglected One step sparring is designed to practice self defence moves against a pre arranged attack. In one step sparring a range of techniques should be used that are commensurate with the students grade starting with Hand techniques, then foot techniques followed by hand & foot techniques and finally at Dan grade level take downs may be included One for One sparring is used to help build a fast counter reaction and should be practiced at speed using the students full range of techniques starting with advanced techniques and ending with basic techniques, this may be performed on the spot or moving around. Once
again the following should be taken into account.
Destruction:
Pattern: This is probably the most important part of the grading, in you patterns you will show the basic techniques and YOUR technical ability, as poomse is where the ART of Taekwondo lie's candidates must show an understanding of what they are doing, Failure in the patterns section of the grading usually ends in failure to upgrade. for more pattern info visit our patterns page Correct technique, breath control, focus, timing (Slow or fast, as indicated in instruction) kihaps and right movement, martial art spirit, credible, accuracy, convincing, lively,
